PAKISTAN'S RENOWNED JOURNALIST NASEEM ZEHRA DEFENDS HER DECISION ON URDU TALK RADIO CHICAGO:
Pakistan's top journalist, faculty member of the South Asian Institute at John Hopkins University and a senior Fellow at Harvard university, Naseem Zehra defended her decision not to accept Sitarae-Imtiaz from the Pakistan Government when she was a guest at Chicago's most popular Talk show "Talk Radio 1590 AM on Last Sunday.

Naseem Zehra cited the reason of her refusal to accept this pretigious award which was the killing of a prominent Baloch Leader Nawab Akbar Bugti. She said that the Pakistani government lost their nerves at this critical juncture when negotiations were needed, the government went into a reactionary mode which caused the tragic end of a Political leader. Most of the callers did not agree with her and that transformed into a heated discussions. She clarified to the listereners that Late Mr.Bugti was not her hero and she would not have voted for her but she still thinks that afterall he was a Pakistani and worked with Quaid-e-Azam and was a former governor of Balochistan and was the minister of defence at one time. He is the one that could have been engaged in the negotiations.Ms.Zehra said that present government has taken remarkable steps to address the problems of the people of Balochistan but she lamented that the last decision will not do any good for country which is already surrounded by internal and external threats.

Naseem Zehra pointed out that the South Asian countries are undergoing a phase where homegrown terrorism is de-generating the societies. The recent killlings of muslims in Nasik India could be a reaction of Hindu Fundamentalists against the Bombay railway bombings. We need to see everything in the context of the hindu extremism in India and the socio-economic conditions of the muslims in India.

She said that it is unfortunate that Mr.Nawaz Sharif reacted hastilly on an ISPR press release regarding the Corps Commander Quetta's removal that caused confrontation with the Armed forces and ultimately led to the events which includes highjacking of airplane of the chief of army staff and then General Musharraf's rise to power.

She thanked the Asian Broadcasting Network Team for doing such a wonderful job.

Kudos to the ABN team for puting up such a nice show which is at par with the talk shows that were presented on ARY and GEO tv.

ABN made history in urdu broadcasting in states by presenting such informative programs and will surely continue to make it. Please do listen live every Sunday from 1pm-3pm Central Time (2-4pm EST) at www.abnchicago.org
